Louise Yacubsen
Why is the SL viewer still using agent height? At least 90 percent of the height detectors today uses the prim height to meassure the avatars height. My avi has a prim height of 1,64 m and that´s pretty normal for a woman. If I use the SL viewer and edit appearance it says I´m only 1,48! The prim height is not a method that measures the actual visible avatar and fortunately most sims do not use it any longer. So why is the SL viewer still using it?

Amethyst Jetaime
Sorry, no Lindens here. This is a resident to resident forum. It's a mystery to us why LL has not changed this. It isn't like they haven't been asked to do this. Unfortunately it is now against the new TOS to offer suggestions for improvements or new features and the new Jira system no longer accommodates this. There isn't a true avatar height statistic that a script can access - the "accurate" height detection scripts really just take the agent height and multiply it by a fudge factor. The only exception would be something that creates an actual prim and measures it.

I don't think it is against TOS to suggest as far as I've seen. Only to go ahead and impliment them before defualt viewer does.
Coby Foden
Louise Yacubsen wrote: Why is the SL viewer still using agent height? It is indeed a total mystery why the true mesh height has not been implemented so far in Linden Lab viewer. A JIRA has been opened already 11 June 2010. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-19767 Status: Acknowledged Resolution: Unresolved They should at least remove the Agent Height info from the appearance editor. It just confuses people serving no purpose at all. Or they could put there an explanation - until a solution to tell the true mesh height have been found. Penny Patton
It really seems to boil down to the fact that Linden Lab has no idea what they're doing as far as content creation is concerned. They've repeatedly stated that they don't see the purpose of hiring an art director or anyone with real world content creation experience because they are "not in the business of creating content". LL not being in the business of creating content is all fine and dandy, however they are in the business of developing the tools content creators use (whether it's just customizing your avatar or designing a multi-sim environment) and so this lack of expertise on their part has really hurt their efforts to provide us with decent tools. There's also the little issue that LL is in the business of providing content. Not all of SL's content, of course, but they're responsible for tutorials, starter avatars, Linden Homes, and certain public spaces like Welcome Areas. Their lack of experience and ability in this area has hurt their efforts there considerably as well. And that's before you get into their inability to deal with lag and other performance issues. A lot of it stems from the graphics side of things. Ever considered how textures inpact framerates, lag and latency? LL certainly hasn't. That's a large part of why SL runs so poorly. It's also why LL has never been able to, and never will be able to, regain the momentum of the pre-bust era prior to 2008.
