Items not rezzing

Question

Hi Roman,

Clearing your cache would actually cause things to rez more slowly as, after you re-log, your viewer will be loading everything anew while you try to rez things. Could you come back and edit your question (via "Options" over there on the right) to give more information? Did anything else change around the time you noticed this increased lag. Are you noticing slow rezzing, or a long delay before the object you try to rez suddenly appears?

Clearing your cache didn't do anything except slow down the rate at which things will rez.  A full cache is much better than an empty one, because your viewer looks there first when it has to render a texture.  If it's not there, then the viewer has to download the texture from the servers, which takes a little extra time.  So, emptying your cache made the problem worse, at least until your viewer started rebuilding the cache again.

Restarting the sim can make a difference, if the problem was that the sim itself was lagging. It's more likely, though, that your Internet connection is being flaky.  If you are losing data packets or if there's something slowing the time it takes for data to travel between the servers and your viewer, then there can be a delay in rezzing. A wireless connection could be part of the problem, for example.  Linden Lab does not recommend wireless for SL because there is too much chance of interference and because most wireless has a hard time handling the heavy, continuous data flow that SL expects.  You might also have a slow router.  If you haven't rebooted it for a while to clear its RAM, you might try that.
