You may do this across as many computers as you wish, you simply cannot log into the same avatar from more than one computer at a time. There can be only one of any avatar in-world at any time. You may log into separate avatars (if you have them) simultaneously, either on different computers, or on one computer if you've enabled multiple copies of the viewer to run simultaneously. You do not need a new account, all your avatar information is stored in the SL servers, and will be downloaded as necessary to any computer from which you log in. Enjoy your new laptop!
