Any microphone that you can use with your computer will work with SL.  The microphones built into laptop computers do quite a good job.  If you use a plug-in mic, it's best that it be on a headset, rather than on your desk.  If you use a desk mic, be sure it is a "noise canceling" type to help reduce feedback.

If you plan to be a DJ, get a GOOD microphone from someplace like B&H, not the junk that's sold at Best Buy.  But the inexpensive gaming headsets are fine for casual use.
