It's not easy.  There isn't much need for unskilled labor in SL.  If you have RL skills as a creator ( a 3D modeler, a scripter, an artist, an animator ...), you can create things to sell in Marketplace or in-world shops.  You can also build or script customized items on commssion for people.  If you are a skiller performer (a musician or a DJ, perhaps), you can get gigs in clubs or special events and be paid a flat fee or earn tips. Any of those "jobs" require a fair amount of skill and a familiarity with the way that SL works.  They also take some initial investment for tools and materials, and then some for expenses like rent and advertizing.

Take a look here for other suggestions about in-world jobs.  You'll see a short list of unskilled jobs at the top that may be interesting.  Also, look at what jobs may be posted in the InWorld Employment forum, or consider posting a note about your own qualifications.

Rolig's advice is spot on.  I would add that you can also get a few $L by playing games like Linden Realms.  Other jobs such as club host/greeter or dancer are a possibility.

But I really don't recommend that you worry about a job, or spend hundreds of hours creating and marketing products, or even waste time on Linden Realms unless you really enjoy it.  Any time you spend in Second Life is some of your precious "free time".  Don't waste it doing anything that you don't enjoy!  Certainly don't waste it just to earn less than $1.00 an hour (about $L 250).

If you feel you must have money, it's far more efficient to just work a few extra hours in Real Life and then buy some $L.

But, at least at first, you don't even need to do that.  There are tons of free things in SL.  Lots of them are junk, but many good quality freebies can be found.  I teach a class on Second Life shopping skills that discusses ways to find and obtain these free items, on Sundays, 1000 SL time, at Caledon Oxbridge University.
