I recently confronted a griefer and it turned out to be a huge mistake.

Don't beat yourself quite so badly over losing your temper - and fear not, you will not have lost your inventory.

Inventory is stored on Linden Lab's servers. I believe they have recently been carrying out inventory maintenance too, which might have added to your situation.

Regarding the griefer. When it makes its next alt, immediately you are aware of it, block the avatar, submit abuse report on any damage it is causing, utilise autoreturn wherever possible (and advise all your neighbours in notecards/IMs they would be wise to do so to keep the neighbourhood griefer-resistant as far as is possible).

I don't know of any way in which a griefer can eliminate your inventory.  The actual inventory is stored on LL's servers, and your viewer keeps a copy of the list (not the actual items) in its cache.

If the inventory cache becomes corrupted, you can reload your inventory by clearing cache.  It's best to do this manually, and here are instructions on how to do that:  http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear

After you have cleared the cache, log in to an empty sim such as Heckendorf or Pooley.  WAIT for your inventory to load.  You can speed this up by typing things, anything, in the inventory search window.  Don't try to wear or detach anything or teleport anywhere until your inventory is fully loaded.

If this does not solve the problem, you may need to reinstall your viewer completely.  Here are instructions for how to do that:  http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clean_reinstall

Next time, don't argue with the griefer.  Griefers do what they do in hopes that they'll get a rise out of you.  Just mute the idiot and completely ignore him.
