You're losing me at the yahoo email linked to SL won't allow you to choose new password.

When you ask for SL to reset the password, SL sends an email to the email linked to the account. When you open that email, it takes you to a SL page. At that page you create a new password. I don't understand how yahoo is involved?

Does it say too weak regardless of the complexity?
