BlueManganese
Hi all,I’m a grad student in the University of Leicester’s Museum Studies Program looking for 20 SL residents over the age of 18 interested in taking a brief survey about museums in virtual worlds, even if you’ve never been to one. This research seeks to develop a better understanding of these virtual institutions in-context - what they do, what they don’t do, who uses them (or doesn’t) and why. My research also includes lots of other worlds in addition to SL – ActiveWorlds, Kaneva, Blue Mars, OSgrid, Kitely, etc etc., so if you’re a resident in any others as well, I’d love to hear from you!The survey is quick – at most 5 to 10 minutes - and data collection is completely anonymous and used exclusively for my dissertation. No emails, names, or IP addresses are requested or collected. If you elect to provide a username (completely optional!) I’m offering compensation of L$750 . (Usernames will be used ONLY for compensation and will remain confidential.)I know, I know, I’m the billionth researcher looking for SL participants, and L$750 is not exactly big bucks. But I love SL’s cultural scene and the complexity of its sims and I would love some insight from residents older than I. (And, you know, grad student funding my own research = not a lot of those big bucks with which to fund it.)The survey can be found here - if you’re interested, please check out the first page for more detail about purpose and confidentiality, etc., or feel free to IM me or email me at jat41@leicester.ac.uk with any questions. Thanks!-Blue
RudolphFarquhar
Is that a flying pig? No, it's a literate, poliite and enthusiastic request for participation in what seems to be a legitimate academic survey. Will wonders never cease? **********Rudi********** DISCLOSURE: The son of a friend of mine is a student at this university, and from what his mother tells me I am astonished that Blue has had time to post here, given the continuous round of parties, drinking and fraternisation which seems to be a compulsory element of the syllabus across all faculties. ETA: I completed the survey, anonymously, which has saved you the price of a four-pack of those nice white Belgian beers.
Lewis Luminos
Because you have requested participants the way it should be done, I have filled in your survey. Good luck with your research.

BlueManganese
Thank you to everyone for your very kind words and your participation! I’m always struck by the extent of knowledge of SL residents, and their willingness to share it - I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the benefit of your support and feedback. I’m getting some really fascinating data, thank you so much for your time, your thoughts, and your insight. To all who have completed the survey and provided their username, I'll be paying out your compensation tonight. Rudi, thank you! Sadly, I work full time in addition to grad school, so I’m afraid a party for me these days consists of an extra hour of sleep. Thank you for the anonymous completion, that Belgian beer is sounding pretty good right about now! Lewis, Amethyst, Perrie, and Drake1, thank you again! (And there are 8 open surveys remaining, if anyone else is interested.)
