0 Lindal Kidd
Did this window telling you that you needed to update your viewer appear ***while you were logged into Second Life***? I have never heard of this happening before. The announcement of a newer viewer version should appear on the login screen when you go to start SL. If you got some sort of message while you were already logged in, it's possible that it was a prank or an exploit, and it directed you to a page that downloaded a flawed viewer, or possibly even a harmful one. It could also have been a "phishing" scam to get your user name and password. If you think this may have happened to you, do a complete uninstall of your viewer following the instructions here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 Also, if you are able to, change your account password, following the instructions here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Password-and-account-information/ta-p/700017#Section_.3 In the link above, you will also see some more information about what to do if you think your account has been compromised. Follow those directions. Finally, do a complete antivirus and malware scan of your computer.
