You're doing the right things.  A couple of things you might not be able to do anything about...

You shouldn't use WiFi (although you do say you've tried with a wired connection as well...good, stick with that.)

Intel Graphics HD 4000 is a form of integrated graphics...the graphics power is provided by the main CPU and memory, instead of a dedicated discrete graphics processor.  While it's much better than previous versions, it's still quite low powered when trying to run something like Second Life.

I can't give you any Mac-specific advice, being on the Dark Side.
