where can i find old chat logs

No really, your chat logs are found at the end of this path...using my PC and account as an example

C:\Users\<WindowsUserId>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\karenmichelle_lane

There will a text log for each avatar and group.

If you have been saving them and have not deleted them in a viewer update, they will be on your hard drive, in the AppData folder.  Look for a subdirectory for Roaming/SecondLife/ and then find the subfolder at that level with your avatar's name on it.  That folder will contain a large collection of chat logs.  There will be folders for IM's you have had with anybody, and a separate folder labeled "Chat" that contains the logs of local chat.
