why did LL change my account to Premium and charge me when i did not wish to have a Premium account?

Odd, normally these things do not happen by themselves.  Did you purchase land on Mainland?  You need to be a premium member to do that.  Did you give your password to someone?

It is not a problem to go back to a basic account.  Look on your Dashboard under Account and Change Membership Plan to go back to Basic.

You can try to file a support ticket but think back to actions you may have taken to get that Premium account.  Good Luck!

I just want to add a little to what Venus said.

The most likely cause of you being upgraded to, and billed for, a premium account is - as Venus said - because you have bought a plot of main land. You can not own mainland unless you are premium. This could have happened by visiting some land and buying it, or by winning an auction for land on the website.

If you file a ticket, but do not get 'downgraded' to basic again, you will probably have to stay premium for the time you have payed for. If you still want to become a Basic member again, you have to remember to downgrade on your dashboard at http://secondlife.com/ You can not downgrade, I believe, if you own land.
