You can start by asking the sim owner to restart the sim.  After that, ask your models to limit the number of scripted items they wear.  It is easy to check scripts on each other.  The parcel on which you are practicing may be full of prims.  Have some low-prim seats for show watchers to use or have them stand around the runway. 

Fashion shows are notriously laaagy.  I attended a show a few years ago where they asked everyone to remove attachments including prim hair.  So, all the attendees were bald.  The show was still very laggy.
