If you have a look at http://gridsurvey.com/ you will note that there are many sims with names of famous RL cities like London, Paris, Berlin etc. Having a quick look there i found that we have already 11 sims with the name Chicago but no "Chicago 1912". Yes your sim or sims will appear in the World Map. If you want to be in Search also, it is an option under About Land and Options tab "Show place on Search".
