Standing Together

Recommended Posts

Now that we are officially 'in transition' (with Blondin gone) maybe it's time to stand together better, and build upon what we have, so we do not fall apart. I believe that LL cares about the mainland of Zindra and all adult SL moe than soem give credit, and this is the time to show an increased willingness to be positive and move forward, to show that the residents (us!) care as much as we want LL to care.

For one, tthis forum can grow into a very active place, to discuss all manner of SL adult issues and Zindra issues. I believe that, if the Lab sees positive solutions emerging from this forum, then this will be a respected and often consulted, resource

For my own part, I;ll try to post new and varied topics about once a week, and I hope others are similarly engaged. This could be a great time to develop new ideas, brainstorm and maybe even form a 'thinktank'. The good news is that anything is possible!

I'm sorry to disagree, but I think a private forum, the membership of which is unknown and which I -- at least -- was asked by Blondin not to publicise because he didn't want lots of people asking to join, doesn't seem to me to be a particularly good place to discuss ideas.

Is Amethyst a member?   Marine Kelley or Kitty Barnett?  Qie Niangao?  Chorazin Allen?   Inara Pey? I can list of plenty of people whom I think would have very valuable things to say about adult content, and I don't know if they're even aware of this forum's existence, let alone if they're able to contribute to any discussion we might have.

If  asked to name a good place to discuss Adult Content, I'd probably suggest SLU rather than here -- at least we know Rodvik Linden reads that now and again.

I believe that Stroker has asked Amethyst and Marine is a good friend of mine but she's not much on publicity or even being heard in public but I can ask her since we've been friends since we both joined SL.

However, I really get what Ginette is saying, agree with Innula that this needs to be a private forum to keep out the trolls and more important, to represent that the adult business is just as viable a business model as any other digital commerce business.

As most know, I represent a number of adult clients in RL and the mainstream digital market recognizes adult openly now. I hope someday, SL does the same.

This forum seems part of an entire movement by LL to try to connect with residents in a more select way (a little like focus groups or even think tanks, if you will). Privacy is part of the concept, hence the invite-only attitide.

I think the idea was to do two things at once: make the very public User Group Meetings (inworld ones specifcally) more accessible to more people, to increase the exposure and input, but create a second tier (these private-style groups) for more focused and professional interaction. Two tiers. I believe there may even be a 3rd but not sure about that

What that would mean, is that the Private level will always be rather 'exclusive' and require some type of Linden invite. I suppose its the only fair way to do it, though I can see why it would feel 'elitist' to some. In the end, all we need to do is compare this style against the often chaotic style of the old Office Hours meetings.

I actually think both tiers are a good complement.

And what I'm saying is that there's a considerable number of people -- adult content creators, venue owners and people in the SL land business -- whose participation in any serious discussion of matters affecting adult content in general (as opposed, maybe, to the -- in many ways atypical -- subset of adult content to be found on Zindra) is very important.   At one point, Blondin asked me to suggest some names, and I see some of the people I mentioned soon (coincidentally or not)  posted here to introduce themselves.    Some didn't.    Doubtless Blondin was asking people besides me for nominations, too.

I've no way of knowing who Blondin invited or didn't and whether they accepted the invitations or not.   And since he asked me not to mention this forum to people, I can't even ask them if they were invited.

I've nothing against private forums, but I do think that a serious discussion of many aspects of Adult Content policy without the participation of -- for example -- some of the owners of the large private estates on which much of that content is hosted is going to be a bit difficult.     There's lots of Adult Content specific to various forms of RP (Gor, CARP, Furry, Sci Fi...).   Are they represented here?  I just don't know, but I do know that I think their participation in any discussion is very important.
