Hello bobfoot and welcome to Second Life and SL Forums. If you want to remove your chothes, right click on your avatar --> Take off --> Clothes or right click and Detach to remove attachments.

If you can't remove your underwear it is because you wear still one of the default skins. With simple words your underwear this moment is a part of your skin, that's why you can't remove it. To get naked you need to change skin. Before to do that be sure that you are in a region where nudity allowed. You can find in your inventory 1-2 of your default skins which are offered for nudity. Alternatively you can ask a friend in world to give you another free skin or you buy a new one at Marketplace. You can find also there free ones.

If you have white parts covering your avatars body when you have taken all clothes of, you need a new skin. The default avata skins have modesty patches painted on the skin which can not be removed.

The only way, if this is the case, is to get a new skin. There may be one or more somewhere in the Library in your inventory. If not, try to search on the marketplace or in world for free skins.

Also, if you are male or female makes a difference. A female can be anatomically correct with just a skin change. However, the male parts cannot just be painted on. An attachment is required to complete the male anatomy. 

If you are trying for a... fully functional avatar... you can find all the anatomical parts in-world. The kits for female and male genitalia, pregnancy simulation, pregnancy tests, and on and on are available. FULLY functional... They range in price from free to several hundreds of Lindens. The better ones provide consideration for various sexual preferences.

In SL compatibility among lovers is more complex than just personality and sexual preference. Various brands of genitalia are and aren't compatible. So, that next level relationship talk has added aspects.
