Second Life won't start. I've tried various viewers including the latest from this website

Not sure this will help but you can try to start the viewer without hardware detect.  Add  --noprobe to your startup string in the viewer shortcut.  See the article below for more details.  Perhaps by skipping the hardware detect you will get lucky.
