bugs Avatar won't render, IMs won't send, groups won't load...
ContinentalPanther posted a question in Technical
Hi, Trying to log into my account the past 12 hours or so has been impossible. I either can't connect or, when I do, none of my communication devices work and my avatar won't render. I tried logging in with an alt, and it worked just fine - it could TP, send messages, and rendered. I'm using the latest version of firestorm on a high end PC with great internet speeds. The issue persisted across the account on two different computers on two different networks (home internet on laptop/desktop, cell phone hotspot to both as well) as well as Luminya on my cell phone. The problem was present before updating Firestorm and my laptop is still running the older version. I've tried logging out and choosing home or different bookmarks to spawn at with no luck. Reset both computers. Checked antivirus. Disabled antivirus. Waited several hours. No luck. Tried stripping my avatar of everything he was wearing. I was playing just fine last night, so I don't see what the problem is. Edit: I'm also sometimes getting an error telling me my computer's clock is wrong, but it's synced to the internet and matches my phone's time. I can no longer log in on either account now. -
As I see it, Second Life has three big bugs that keep the big virtual world from performing well. Level of detail. Second Life often chokes on complex user content. Some of this is because content creators are uploading models with far too many polygons. Some of this is because the upload pipeline for mesh optimization is way behind the state of the art. And some of it is because viewer level of detail handling needs to be smarter. Region crossings. Movement is cramped in SL because region crossings don't work as well as they should. I've discussed this extensively elsewhere. Inadequate sim-side concurrency. Sims start to choke around 15-20 avatars. That's far too low. The sim code seems to be mostly single-threaded, and can be easily overloaded. Parts of SL thus feel like being stuck in a traffic jam. Modern MMO games do not feel like this. This is a major turnoff for new users. This is a technical debt problem. The design decisions that brought us here were reasonable in 1999, but are obsolete today. This is a problem that can be solved within the existing SL architecture. Not easily. But it's not impossible. Fixing SL is probably easier than fixing Sansar. Sansar lacks important functionality that is yet to be written. It also lacks users and a use case. SL has about the right functionality; it's just the performance that's bad.

Second life is one of the most creative social platforms ever created, of course with the exception of sansar, a project that promises to be better than the old one although it is still very restricted, due to the fact that it has not yet been supported by all! to notice many bugs, voice buga often, avatars bugam frequently, lands bugam frequently! And I see lindem doing maintenance in market, maintenance in voice, maintenance in several things less on a platform as a whole! I feel as if the sl for being very old, and have several creators, it has kind of gotten into conflict, for lack of general updating! System Improvement! Creators need to pay more attention when designing their products, buy poses for photos, guess what? Bugadas, I buy a body, it warned buggy! I buy another product, nor is it promised! It's too much for ld to monitor everything alone! It is necessary that everyone together with ld work for the improvement of the platform! Linden also needs to look more closely at your platform! Recently things have gone wrong! I just have not left because I'm short on this kind of platform, and although it's not marvelous, I do not find another one to be able to migrate, when I have it, I'll retire if I do not improve, just as a good part of its audience has withdrawn!

Hello everyone! Lately on Second Life, more so the Firestorm viewer I've been having troubles with my microphone. What I mean is when I get on SL, usually the microphone button is grayed out and I am not able to hear anyone speak. I have a yeti microphone. Usually it fixes if I re-log, but I want to try and avoid having to do that a bunch of times.

No matter how many times I try to remove them, the system is adding photos to my posts that I do not want in that particular post. They are my photos, for use in other posts, but I really didn't want them included in this particular post. I try to remove them, then update the post, then the system puts them right back in. You can see it here:
